Community Healing, Rallies, Teach-In May 14-16 sponsored by OCA Greater Seattle

AAPI Against Hate and community organizations demand justice for John Huynh and an end to anti-Asian violence and hate.

AAPI Against Hate is a coalition of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander nonprofits, community leaders, individuals, and young scholars combating hate, bigotry, and systemic racism against the AANHPI communities. Since our March 13th rally, AAPI Against Hate has held over 60 corner rallies, numerous virtual action rallies, and has brought together community members by building healing spaces and facilitating community conversations. Throughout our endeavors, we have heard communities loud and clear: our communities want accountability and community-based solutions for public safety. We cannot remain ignorant of Anti-Asian sentiment.

“It’s our silence that perpetuates hate crimes against AAPI’s so it’s our responsibility to speak up against it.”

—AAPI Against Hate co-organizer, Madeleine Magana.

“It is crucial that our elected officials act now to condemn anti-Asian hate and call for an end to such violence. We demand nothing less of our elected representatives.”

—Emily Chang, AAPI Against Hate co-organizer.

John Huynh, a Chinese and Vietnamese man, was fatally stabbed outside of a Bothell apartment. John’s murder is a tremendous tragedy for the Huynh family, and yet another gut-wrenching loss felt by the broader Asian American community.

“While we seek an investigation of the possible role of hate in the murder of John Huynh, the cause of Justice for John Huynh exceeds the criminal-legal system. Justice for John Huynh is accountability and fully understanding the causes of this attack and working towards community-based prevention. Justice for John Huynh and for Asian American and Pacific Islander communities is standing together for one another’s humanity.”

—Nathan Duong, AAPI Against Hate co-organizer.
