Leaders ranging from representatives of community groups and concerned residents are calling for solidarity in response to the rise of robberies, home invasions, and assaults against businesses and residents as well as the September 3 apparent shooting death in New Holly.
Speakers planned were Dat Cao, tased in Beacon Hill in a home-invasion robbery, and Daniel Doan, a firefighter whose family business and customers were robbed in the Rainier Valley.
According to Willon Lew, longtime resident of Beacon Hill and an organizer of the event, “We stand in solidarity with everyone, and we don’t want situations like this to be ‘normalized.’”
Don Cameron, executive director of Seattle Cares Mentoring and the 4C Coalition (Clergy, Community, Children-Youth Coalition, a mentoring group started in 1999), added, “We need to offer hope. Hope for safer places. Hope for opportunities to thrive.”
