The Shepard-Byrd Act represents a landmark in federal efforts to combat hate crimes, extending critical protections to individuals targeted because of race, national origin, religion, gender, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity. Event Highlights: Fireside Chat: Hear from Judy and Dennis Shepard and Louvon Byrd Harris, family members of Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr., in a conversation hosted by Kristen Clarke, Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights.
